This Traffic Control Course Combo includes both the Stop/Slow Bat Course and Implement Traffic Control Plans licences. Most students book the Traffic Control Course (Combo) as it provides the best opportunity for employment.
The Stop/Slow Bat Course enables workers to operate a stop/slow bat on a work site. The Implement Traffic Control Plans Course enables
workers to read site plans and set up traffic control on a work site. If that work location is a construction site, you will need a
White Card (to be on a construction site)
If organising a group booking or onsite training, we can facilitate Traffic Control training nationally.
Students must provide 100 points of ID at the day of the training.
TCP Training and Affirm Training are not registered with CRICOS, as such we are unable to conduct training and assessment for those with study restrictions on their visa. This includes but is not limited to the International Student Visa (subclass 500), you can check the entitlements of your visa here.
It is important to note that this course requires a level of physical ability to complete practical assessments. If your health or fitness restricts you from performing physical activities associated with this program, you will not be able to complete this course.
This course combines plain English, videos, photos, and questioning to ensure all learners are able to have the best possible chance at comprehending the required knowledge and skills. All students must complete the theory and practical training, as well as completing a third party workplace sign off prior to going onto a live site to complete the workplace assessment and sign off. Full details about assessments are included in the course PDF.
Students are offered multiple opportunities to demonstrate knowledge and skills throughout the Traffic Control Course.
If a student is not successful in completing all assessments satisfactorily, they will need to rebook the Traffic Control Course at the full course fee.
- Wear appropriate PPE: closed shoes/boots, long sleeve shirt, long pants & any sun and rain protection are required or you can be turned away.
There are 4 steps to the course:
- Theory training in the classroom
- Take home self paced learning and assessment workbook
- Practical training in a simulated work environment
- Assessment conducted in a real worksite/live project
We will provide all students with reading materials and assessment packs, including instructions detailing the evidence and documents each student must submit to complete the training program. Details below cover most of this information. Full course details available in course PDF.
Granville Training & Assessment
Weekly Traffic Control combo courses will be conducted on a Monday & Tuesday or Thursday & Friday.
The training schedule is as per the below:
- Step 1 – Attend theory and practical training – 8am – 4pm
- Step 2 – Attend theory and practical training – 8am – 4pm
- Step 3 – Complete all assessment workbooks
- Step 4– Attend practical assessment at Homebush or live Worksite
At the training sessions, we will provide you with assessment workbooks. These workbooks must be completed and submitted to the trainer before you can progress & book into the practical assessment day.
Once all training and assessment workbooks have been completed, students will need to call Affirm Training to book the practical assessment. The practical assessment can be completed in one of two ways:
- Book a spot with our partner company to complete practical assessment at Homebush Bay (Sydney Olympic Park) at a live worksite.
- Book an assessor to attend your workplace to witness and assess you performing the work in a live worksite.
The Homebush assessment is conducted in partnership with ACES Group, trading as Affirm Training (RTO 90024).

Traffic Control Course Combo
$500 (weekdays) or $700 (weekends)
*Rate includes up to one hour of travel for the assessor and one hour of assessment. Additional fees may apply depending on assessment location. For full details see Assessment section.
Unit of Competency
Each of the Traffic Control Courses have the following units of competency associated:
Traffic Control Course Combo (Stop/Slow Bat + Implement Traffic Control Plans) = 4 units total
- RIIWHS205D Control traffic with a stop/slow bat
- RIIWHS302D Implement traffic management plan
- RIIWHS201D Work safely and follow WHS policies and work procedures
- RIICOM201D Communicate in the workplace
After your training is successfully completed, students are issued with a Roads Maritime Services (RMS) Statement of Completion which allows you to take this to a real worksite and complete the workplace assessment (see details below).
The Statement of Completion is valid for 90 days. If you require an extension for this, a fee of $50 will be payable to be issued with another Statement of Completion.
Once you have been issued a Statement of Completion, you are eligible to work within its period of validity.
After successfully completing all the training and assessment requirements within 90 days, you will need to send us a copy of your paperwork. Once marked competent, we will lodge the application to Roads Maritime Service for your licence to be posted to you.
NOTE: Licences take up to 3 weeks to arrive in the post from Roads Maritime Services. Please consider this as your Statement of Completion may expire before the certificate is issued.
Successful students are issued a Statement of Attainment which is a nationally recognised certificate. One Statement of Attainment will be issued for each unit of competency which is successfully completed.
This course is delivered by Affirm Training with certificates issued by Affirm Training (RTOID:90024).
Traffic Controller FAQs
- Can I convert my Grey Traffic Controllers photo ID card to a Blue Traffic Controllers card?
Persons holding a Grey Traffic Controllers – Non Construction Card and who have completed their NSW SafeWork OHS General Construction Induction training or recognised equivalent can now convert their Traffic Controller - Non Construction card to the Blue Traffic Controller Photo Id card. To convert your Grey Card to a RTA Blue Traffic Controller Photo Id card, call the Traffic Control Training Unit on (02) 8837 0356 or check the website for more details.
- Do I require a White Card for this training?
No. You do not require a White Card to undertake this training, however you will need a White Card to work or be assessed on a construction site in NSW.
- How long is my licence valid for?
Your licence will be valid for a 3 year period. We recommend you apply to get re-certified before it expires.
- How long is my Statement of Completion (SOC) valid for?
A Statement of Completion (SOC) is valid for 90 days. This allows individuals to work & gain experience within this time period. Note your SOC must be in date to undertake the practical assessment on a live worksite.
- How long is the Photo ID Card valid for?
All Photo ID Cards are valid for three years. To re-qualify as a Traffic Controller you will need to complete the training and assessments to receive a valid Photo ID Card.
- What can I do as a Traffic Controller?
Traffic Controllers gain the skills & knowledge to stop/direct road users using a stop/slow bat and understand stopping sight distances. If you are new to the industry, we recommend undertaking the Combo course to further increase prospects of employment.
- What happens if my Statement of Completion (SOC) has expired?
If your SOC has passed its 90 day period of validity, you can no longer use this for work purposes. Please contact our team or email email@example.com to discuss your options.
- What if I have an overseas Drivers Licence?
If the date of issue is 12 months or more from the date you are attending a training course and it is not a learner’s permit then you may be able to attend the training. If the licence is not written in English an International Driving Permit or an English translation must be also carried with the licence If you are uncertain please check with your Training Provider, call the Traffic Control Training Unit (02) 8837 0356 or check the website for more details.
- What if my licence has been lost or stolen?

- Can Centrelink pay for me?
What you need to do is register with your local Job Network Agent. Your Employment Consultant will make the booking with us on your behalf and arrange payment with us directly. Unfortunately Centrelink does not pay directly.
- Can I pay my package in installments?
Unfortunately we cannot offer this service, full payment of course fees are required at the time of booking. The good news is that we try to always offer value for money and keep course fees affordable, so you know that you are always getting good value, especially with our package deals which offer reduced prices!
- Can you get me a job?
Although we cannot guarantee you a job, we would be delighted to refer you to an agent who may be able to assist you to find work.
- What payment methods do you accept?
Payment can be made at the time of booking using either a credit card, EFTPOS or cash. Invoices and acceptance of company cheques is by prior arrangement only.
The cost for the training program is $500 per person plus assessment fee.
